Fire Cadet Program

Images of firefighting training exercises and a firefighter in gear.

Brinnon Fire Department, in partnership with Quilcene Fire Rescue, offers a youth cadet program for young people aged 14-17.  The program introduces young people to firefighting and emergency medical services.  It's a great way to develop practical skills, build confidence, meet new friends, and have fun!

The program is no-cost and open to all.  Although most cadets are from the Brinnon and Quilcene area, we have had cadets from Lilliwaup, Poulsbo, Port Townsend, and other communities.  The program can provide a path to a career in the fire service, as well as helping to build leadership skills and foster a  commitment to community service.

The program runs from late Spring through Summer annually.  A highlight of the program is the three-day summer Fire Camp, where cadets demonstrate their skills in hands-on, practical activities in:

  • Wildland firefighting
  • CPR and first aid
  • Radio communication
  • Boat operations
  • Protective gear and safety

The Cadet Program is more than an opportunity to learn about the firefighting and emergency medical services.  It gives young people valuable experiences in teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility.
